Perth ยท Western Australia โ€” free forever, open source

Grow a garden.
Become the landscaper who built it.

Not gardening tips. The real sequence a Western Australian landscaper runs from the moment a client rings โ€” qualify, brief, survey the site, check what the council allows, design, document, cost, build, hand over, maintain.

You play both parts, client and contractor, and the site is the block you already own. Eleven phases later you have professional skills, a proper design package, and a garden worth more than you spent on it.

Everything here is free. No account needed to read a single word of it.

That garden is not stock art โ€” it is your progress. Every phase you finish plants another layer of it, starting from bare sand and one seedling.

Why this one and not the others

Written for Perth sand

Bassendean and Spearwood sands hold almost no water and almost no nutrient. The sprinkler roster is permanent, there is a total ban every winter, and retaining walls hit a permit threshold lower than any other state. Advice written for Melbourne or Michigan will cost you a garden.

The whole process, in order

Amateurs start at the pretty drawing. Professionals spend the first three phases finding out what the site and the law will actually allow, because that is where the expensive surprises live. This course makes you do it properly.

Every link actually checked

Each resource is fetched and verified before it ships, then annotated with what it costs, how long it takes, why it beat the alternatives, and what to change for Perth. Paid courses appear only when genuinely best โ€” always with the best free option named beside them.

Legal and safe comes before pretty

Some of this work is regulated in Western Australia, and some of it will hurt you if you get it wrong. Retaining walls above a certain height need a permit and often an engineer. Mains electrical, plumbing, gas and pool barriers require licensed trades. Cutting pavers makes silica dust. Digging without lodging a free Before You Dig enquiry is both dangerous and, under the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 (WA), your liability.

Every lesson that touches one of these carries a sign like this one, with the rule and the source. You will not have to go looking for it.

Build status โ€” 15 of 91 lessons written

The whole path is mapped. The planting is still going in.

Every lesson already has its final title, its practical task and its checklist โ€” that part is settled, and the checklists are genuinely usable on their own. What is still being added is the written explanation and the verified resources. Lessons that are not written yet say so plainly instead of pretending.

Phase 3 โ€” site analysis, including the audit of a garden that already exists โ€” is being written first, because renovating something is harder than starting from bare sand.
