Search every lesson, checklist and resource. Try a plant, a material, or a problem you have.

Style, mood boards and material palettes that belong in WA

Limestone, jarrah, granite, rammed earth, liquid limestone, corten — the WA palette, what each costs, how each ages in this climate, and how to build a mood board that constrains your choices instead of just being pretty.

The practical task and the checklist below are exactly what this lesson will teach. What is missing is the written explanation and the curated links, each one fetched and verified before it ships.

In the meantime the checklist is genuinely usable on its own. Take it outside.

Field journal entry

Material palette

Assemble a mood board and a written material palette: paving, walling, decking, edging, mulch, screening and furniture. For each, note the material, an approximate Perth rate, how it weathers here, and why it belongs with the others.

Sign in to write this straight into your project workbook — or just keep it in a notebook.

Checklist

  • Limit yourself to a small number of materials and repeat them
  • Check how each material performs in Perth sun, salt and sand
  • Price each material roughly before committing
  • Check the palette works with the house, not against it
